Birdwatching
Several scientific studies during the last decade focused on assessing the biodiversity of Burgbernheim’s woodland edges and resident bird populations.
So far over 50 different species of resident birds have been documented in Burgbernheim’s forest alone, among them seven on Bavaria’s endangered list. As the most recent report notes, this quantity is “astonishingly high”. For comparison, it is equivalent to the number of species found in the untouched old-growth forest of Bialowieza, Poland. The entire report (in German) may be found by following the link.
Our wetlands, meadows and open fields also teem with a multitude of birds. In fact, Burgbernheim has recently become a popular birding destination for those in the know.
